Our Mission & Vision

GSJ Family Life Center (GSJFLC) was established in 2014 to address racial and ethnic disparities in underserved and economically disadvantaged communities.

The mission of the organization: Investing in children and families to foster long term financial sustainability and socioeconomic persistence by providing services that meet the unique needs and challenges associated with living in today’s urban environment.

Our History

Greater St. John Bible Church was founded in the Austin community on May 10, 1985 as a ministry striving to meet the spiritual needs of Austin residents regardless of ethnicity or socioeconomic background. As Greater St. John Bible Church grew, the vision to serve the Austin Community grew was well.  Looking to expand its reach and further its mission. Pastor Ira Acree, realized a greater vision, one that would ensure a lasting legacy, thus GSJ Family Life Center was established.

GSJ Family Life Center (GSJFLC) is a community-based, non-profit organization founded in 2014 as a vehicle to reduce racial and ethnic disparities within the Austin community. GSJFLC provides services to youth, adults and families who would otherwise lack access to needed services. The services provided by GSJ Family Life Center are improving lives by fostering long term financial sustainability and creating safer communities. GSJFLC believes in the power of families and communities to solve problems. Services are person-centered and trauma informed. GSJFLC has provided services through both state and local contracts that address the needs of marginalized communities.

GSJ Family Life Center employs 6 staff members. At present, three employees including our CEO/Founder, Ira Acree reside in the Austin community. Austin residents employed with GSJFLC possess a combined total of 50+ years serving community residents and responding to community needs.

GSJFLC serves over 200 families annually and our senior leadership team comprises over 60 years of collective experience serving vulnerable and underserved populations. We are distinguished from other community organizations by our continuous commitment to equity and inclusive services, as well as the belief that individuals and families have the right to live in safe communities with greater economic opportunity. GSJFLC possesses knowledge of the community's challenges and service gaps. As GSJFLC continues its evolution we are excited about the opportunity to expand the current scope of our programs and services.

GSJ Family Life Center is located at 1256 N. Waller Ave in the North Austin community. The GSJ Family Life Center has served over 1000+ youth, adults, and families since 2014. GSJFLC’s believes in maintaining strong community ties and building equity and inclusion for all. We've deepened our community impact by focusing on four strategic areas: Youth Development, Violence Prevention, Health & Wellness and Workforce & Career Development. Our programs help to reverse social, emotional, and economic barriers to success that underserved communities often experience.
